4 Uplifting DIY Ideas to Support a Healthy Mood

Who wants to be sad when they can be happy! No one. Well, except maybe my Aunt (not to be named), but she's a special case. {sigh} You have one of those in your family too, right?

So if you're anyone other than THAT person, you may decide that you would rather try to be happy, but it's not always easy. Sometimes we have events in our lives that are just plain sad or maybe we are just normally sad people, but we can all use a little uplifting to help our mood when we experience those kind of emotions.

DIY uplifting recipes for sprays, diffusing, and roll on perfumes

Did you know that using your five senses, that the most powerful way to improve your mood is the sense of smell? Did you know that chemical scents (like air fresheners/perfumes) can actually DISRUPT your mood and your health? This is a huge reason why I got into essential oils because what smells more than concentrated plant matter? Puh-lease!

My Top 5 Happy Essential Oils
  • White Angelica
  • Joy + Lemon (or Orange)
  • Ylang Ylang
  • Valor (or Hope)
  • Citrus Fresh
There are a lot more than what's on my list, but these are my favorites! I'd love to hear about your favorites in the comment section below!

One of the best ways to utilize oils for emotions is diffusing. The reason is because our limbic system (aka our mood center) respond to scent so it's a great way to improve our minds and emotions, but you can also use them in a diffuser necklace or as a perfume. And that's when I came up with a few ideas and recipes to help support a healthy balanced mood.

First, I came up with my Calming Roll-on Perfume, but then I needed something uplifting too. I made this DIY Uplifting Roll-on Recipe that I call "The Blues Buster" and never looked back.

Seriously, it's so freaking happy you can't feel sad.

The Blues Buster Roll-on
  • 10 drops of Lemon essential oil
  • 7 drops of Cedarwood essential oils
  • 5 - 8 drops of Joy essential oil (depends on how floral you want it)
  • 5 drops of Orange essential oil
  • 5 drops of Valor essential oil
  • 2.5 oz of liquid carrier oil (jojoba, almond, grapeseed, etc)
  • 5 oz roll-on bottle
I put all of the essential oils in the bottle, then add the carrier oil and put on the fitment (roller) top.

When I need a little uplifting, I will roll this onto my wrists, back of my neck, or behind my ears. It makes a fabulous smelling perfume!

I really enjoy the smell of this blend-- it has floral notes that are balanced by woodsy scents, but it's definitely citrusy. If you are not a fan of floral scents though you may want to put this on your feet using the HEAD or HEART vitaflex or reflexology points (see below).

You could also do this with just White Angelica or another one of the happy scents you just love to make your own signature perfume!

Don't you kind of feel like that "Get Happy" song should be playing in the back ground of this post. You know, the one that's like "Hello world, here's a song that we're singin', Come on, get happy..." I wish I could figure out how to do that on the blog.... Hmph.

Negative Nancy Room Spray
When you feel like a Negative Nancy, try this room spray to help clear negative energy! It smells AWESOME!
  • 1 oz Glass Spray Bottle
  • 50% distilled or purified water
  • 50% alcohol (rubbing alcohol or cheap vodka)
  • 10 drops of  White Angelica essential oil (per oz of water/vodka mix)
  • Pinch of fine salt
DIY uplifting blends, sprays and perfumes
Mix the essential oils in the salt and then add the liquid. This helps to keep the essential oils dispersed into the water/alcohol mixture cuz you know water and oil don't mix ya'll. As soon as you combine everything, feel free to use it! It's so simple, quick and cheap! I love it :)

I spray it on my sofa, curtains, rugs... etc. It helps to remove odor and leaves a lovely, happy scent!

And don't forget about the Happy Protocol!!!

Happy Protocol
This protocol was first shared by D. Gary Young in 1994 and it's one of the most popular natural protocols of the last few decades! It takes just 4 oils and takes minutes to complete!
  • Valor: on the bottoms of the feet, or a single drop on one wrist and hold the other wrist to it for a few moments to balance the entire system.
  • Harmony: a single drop, over the solar plexus area (above the belly button).
  • Joy: a single drop over the heart.
  • White Angelica: a single drop in one hand, rub hands together, and brush over the head, face, chest, shoulders, down the body, right over the clothes, as though applying an "angelic shield".
Gary says that if you do this every single day, it will change your life!!! DOING IT!

Uplifting Diffuser Blends
Scent is the ONLY thing that can impact parts of the brain such as the limbic center. FACT. p.s. the limbic center is the emotional center for your brain remember. Scent is so powerful that smelling something like an essential oil can help your mood more than almost any other solution!!!
