Easy DIY Mini Lotion Sticks

Sometimes creative ideas come to me and I think, "Gosh, Sherri. You're brilliant." This is not one of those moments.

I've spent two years with my original lotion bar (which I love) and I kept thinking FOR TWO YEARS that there has to be a better way and that I was missing something to make them uber portable. And then it hit me... put it in an absolutely adorable mini container.

DUH.

That was the result of two years of contemplation. Not my best moment, but nonetheless I am in love with the results of these Mini Lotion Sticks! I hope you will be too.

I've become completely obsessed with chicken. Omgeee, you guys. These little critters are the most fun animals! They have such personalities and they give me breakfast, too.

It's kind of a win-win situation.

Until I have to clean their chicken coop. OMG. No. BLAH!

Non-Toxic Window and Glass Cleaner with Thieves Household Cleaner

Soooo.... let's chat about windows. Sure, sure, I know that it may seem like a boring conversation, but, trust me-- it's not.

I bet you didn't know that most retail glass cleaners are super duper toxic, did you?

Glass cleaners can be packed full of chemicals to give us that streak free shine and crystal clear appearance, but those same chemicals may also decrease fertility, negatively impact growing children, cause respiratory symptoms, decrease the functionality of the nervous system plus a lot more.

How can this happen? Well, it's a long story, but the gist is that our cleaning products are largely self-regulated by the industry and there are very few rules about what is banned in home care products. But considering the consequences of some of these chemicals and that air pollution can be up to six times greater in our homes compared to outside-- this is definitely something we need to take seriously.

For a full list of how toxic your window cleaner may be, check out What's In Your Glass Cleaner or visit the EWG Cleaning Database for more info.

Homemade Mighty Manuka Moisturizer

I don't know about you, but when the weather starts to cool off my skin gets ANGRY (aka: dry, flakey, red, and generally pissy). It's frustrating, but I know that it's just the best way my skin has to communicate with me and tell me something isn't working.

Some people may decide to plow through this time of the year using their beloved beauty products, but I just decided to give my skin what it wants: extra moisture. After all, that drop in humidity may feel great to me, but my skin misses that extra lovin'.

Most of the year I use my Wrinkle Blasting Serum which I LOVE, but there comes a point in your life that you need to super charge your DIY beauty routine. And that's where my Mighty Manuka Moisturizer comes in....

DIY Bountiful Bosom Serum to Support Breasts

Ah! October. The month where all the toxic, chemical filled products become wrapped in beautiful, pink labels to help support breast cancer. It's just so heartwarming to know that so much of the money donated to the cause is helping CEOs of companies live happier, richer lives and wrap even more toxic products in pink each October. They are doing so much for breast cancer awareness!

And since they have the topic of breast cancer on lock down, I thought that I'd just talk about breast support in general. Let's face it! At the end of the day we can all admit that happy, perky boobs are pretty great. And in a world where there is so much conflict, there is one thing that can unite us all together: the best boobs are happy both on the inside and outside.

Awwwww.... get your tissues folks! I am blowing the cap off of this sentimental thing today!

So MAINTAIN YOUR FEET! Treat them like the amazing things they are and give them a little love. They deserve it.

DIY Beauty Basics 101

Over the years I've gotten hundreds (if not thousands) of emails about DIY beauty and almost everyone has the same questions.
  • Where do I even start?
  • How long do I try a product before I switch?
  • Should I keep my store bought products?
  • How do I find my routine?
  • Why does my skin look like this?!
  • What's your beauty routine?
So I'm going to be smart and answer all of those questions now. In one place. YAY for being smart! It just took me three years.... and my friend Natasha telling me to write this.... DETAILS!

You should know that I'm not a doctor or a dermatologist. I'm just a really crunchy girl who happens to really like looking beauuuuutiful. I also may have done a lot of research (and experimentation) with DIY beauty. So let me tell you what I figured out...

How to Use Carrier Oils

OMG! Everyone wants to know about carrier oils!! One of the most popular questions I get is "Which carrier oil should I use?" Oh, Lordy! That's a heavy question. {sigh} The answers really range from "Anyone you want!!!" to "You probably should use coconut oil for that". There are so many factors, but I've dedicated my WEEK to writing this post to answer your most pressing questions. Lucky you!! YAY!

In my mind, there are really two completely different rules to using carrier oils when it comes to beauty {aka your face} vs simple dilution for essential oils, so we're going to talk about both today!

Homemade Calendula Oil for Sensitive Skin

I know that I talk about essential oils a lot, but herbs are another one of my passions. Earlier this year I took a course about how to use herbs and Calendula was something that really stood out to me as something I NEEDED for my sensitive skin. The more I learned about it the more I felt like it could really take some of my DIY recipes to the next level.

What Is Calendula?
Calendula officinalis is a really fancy name for regular ole Marigold. You can grow your own (dry it completely before use) or you can buy a good quality organic variety (like this one).

If you haven't dried your own herbs before, then I recommend that you read this really detailed guide about harvesting and drying. It's a science and if it's not done correctly your mix won't turn out the way you want it and could even mold. {sad face}
