15 Easy DIYs Using Coconut Oil

Have you discovered the amazingness of coconut oil?

If you have, then you know you can do almost anything with it, right?! It's crazy how versatile this stuff can be. If you haven't been using coconut oil for more than just cooking, then you are in for a treat because I am about to blow your mind.

Coconut oil is good for so many reasons. It's got a great amount of healthy fat, it can help keep your brain strong, it's fantastic for skin care, it's a great moisturizer, it can boost metabolism... and the list goes on. You can read more here about the health benefits of coconut oil if you're interested.

Today we are going to talk about my Top 15 DIYs to make with coconut oil. It was so hard to narrow down this list to 15 so if I missed your favorite, please leave a comment to tell me what you love to do with coconut oil!

15 easy ways to use coconut oil in your home

Sugar or Salt Scrub

One of the easiest DIYs to make in the entire world is a sugar or salt scrub. Anyone can do it. ANYONE. If you've never made a DIY before, then this is the place to start! All you need is really two ingredients, but I love to add essential oils to create a more spa like effect. Here are some ideas for essential oils to add to your next salt or sugar scrub...
  • Lavender: for all skin types, but especially dry, overreactive skin.
  • Peppermint: Oily Skin
  • Frankincense: Aging Skin
  • Tea Tree: Teenage Skin
This is the perfect way to exfoliate your skin and keep it healthy! The average recommendation is to exfoliate every 2 weeks, but listen to your body for optimal results. You may need it more or less frequently.

Remember, salt is typically better for the body and fine sugar is usually used for the face or other sensitive ares.

Bullet Proof Chai Tea

If you aren't a coffee drinker, like me, then you may have heard of all the amazing things about bullet proof coffee, but are a little sad you can't reap all those great benefits. Thankfully, Kirsten from Cheerfully Imperfect made an amazing alternative using Chai Tea!

This is awesome recipe is something that you can make every day and be happy that you are doing something great for your body. Read all about it and get the recipe at Bullet Proof Chia Tea

P.S. You can also try her Bullet Proof Coffee Gummies, too, if you are a coffee drinker.

Diaper Balm

Got babies? Then they probably need some butt balm. My friend, Tracey, from Don't Mess With Mama has you covered! She has a simple recipe featuring coconut oil (you can find it here) that you can whip up in just a few minutes.

This is a great chemical free, natural alternative to that expensive butt brand name butt cream. Trust me, if you check out those retail ingredients-- you will wonder why you are putting it on your baby's sensitive parts.

In full disclosure, I haven't used this DIY because I have never birthed no babies (yes, I am channeling Gone With The Wind), but so many of my friends who do have little ones rave about this DIY so I can't not put it on the list!

DIY Deodorant

Yep. You can totally make your own deodorant and it can actually work better than most natural retail brands. I know because I live in Florida. If you've never been to Florida than you should know that it's really, really, really hot.

Body Lotion Bars

One of the most popular DIYs on my website is my DIY Body Lotion Bars. These are great to because they are portable and yet so rich and moisturizing for skin. They are absolutely amazing for dry skin, especially during the winter, but they are suitable for all year use.

You can easily make them in bulk and give them away to friends or family or you can cut the recipe down and make just one at a time.

Make Your Own Salve

It is really easy to create a salve in just minutes. Okay, seconds!

You just put coconut oil in a jar and then you add any kind of essential oil you want for whatever goal you have! For example, lavender can make a sleepytime salve, PanAway can make a workout salve, and Peppermint can make an energy and focus salve.

Here is a basic recipe that works for more essential oils
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil
  • 5-10 drops of essential oil
You can also make salves with herbs like this one from Growing Up Herbal, but it is a lot more time consuming to make them with herbs, but it can be really fun too!

The Oil Cleansing Method

Have you tried cleaning your face with oil? I know! I know! It sounds crazy, but it can seriously work. Some people have reported clearer skin, happier skin, and getting a healthy glow. It's definitely worth trying out!

You can read more about it here-- The Dirty Truth About Oil Cleansing.

Oil Pulling

Have you tried oil pulling yet? Then you should! It's an amazing way to help support your teeth and gums for that next doctor visit. Some people even report whiter teeth, fresher breath, clearer skin and happier gums when they use it regularly.

Find out how to oil pull at Oh Lardy.

Rose and Coconut Hand Cream

This hand cream is really luxurious and creamy. It's perfect for helping tired hands regain it's supple skin and helping to soften any areas around the cuticles. However, a lot of people also like to use this lotion as a body lotion because they say it is just perfect for skin that wants a little pampering.

If you don't like lavender, feel free to substitute with any floral essential oil like geranium, rose, or patchouli.

You can make this at home using the Lavender-Rose and Coconut Hand Cream recipe.

Makeup Removing Pads and Face Wash

If you are looking for a gentle solution to remove your makeup and clean your skin at the same time, then look no further! This is one of my absolute favorite DIYs for skin care and beauty because it's so gentle on the skin and it's easily customizable for any skin type, too!

But puh-lease, make sure you use fractionated coconut oil for this DIY because regular coconut oil can become solid when the temperature is below 76 degrees.

If you aren't into using cotton rounds, you can just put this in an old foaming soap pump and create a foaming face wash! It's so versatile and effective-- that's what I love most about this DIY.

Personal Lubricant

Why not save the sexiest thing for last? It's totally my style.

You can and should DIY your own personal lubricant because it can and will change your life. Especially if you use this Personal Lubricant recipe from Oh Lardy. I like to call it "The Big O" if you catch my drift.

Use it on your next date night and I promise you won't be sorry.

P.S. If you are a really diabolical person, you will also make a DIY perfume using these same essential oils. After a few "sexy nights", the perfume scent will immediately make your man's brain go to the bedroom and drive him crazy while you're out on the town.

What Kind Of Coconut Oil Should I Buy?
Please remember, that your skin is your largest organ and it will absorb whatever you put on it! So use high quality, organic coconut oil that is unrefined to get the best results!

P.S. You can get the best deal by buying large amounts of coconut oil (like this one). Don't be scared by the volume because once you see all the things you can do with it-- you will know that this is a wise investment!
