Product Review: "Kiss My Face" Olive Oil and Aloe Soap

I have tried Kiss My Face Toothpastes before and really liked them, so when I stumbled across a "Kiss My Face" Olive oil and Aloe bar soap I was really excited to give it a try.

I believe this was intended for your face, but I plan on using it for my body. I'm a rebel, what can I say! I've been using my DIY aloe moisturizer for my face with just a splash of water before I apply it and it's been working great. My normally red face has calmed down and I'm not breaking out any more! Love that stuff. I am tinkering with the thought of making a coconut oil face cleanser-- but I haven't committed yet!

Ahhh! Off topic! Sorry! I could talk forever about anything, but I'll save it for another post! :)

Back to the Kiss My Face Soap!

The ingredients in the Kiss My Face Soap are seem great. It's made of 86% olive oil and the other ingredients are water, aloe, sodium chloride and parfum.

The "parfum" worries me a little because companies are allowed to put whatever they want in a fragrance because it's a trademark secret. I know that Kiss My Face advertises that they do not use unneeded chemicals and perform no animal testing in any of their products. On this soap it states they used no artificial color, it's gluten free, no animal ingredients. I did contact Kiss My Face to inquire about the "parfum" and they admit that it is a....

"... combination of natural, essential oils and synthetic fragrance".

In response, I have asked for clarification on what constitutes "synthetic fragrance".

In the meantime I did use the soap. I don't really know what parfum they put into it because it doesn't have much of a smell. It is mildly earthy, but not in a bad way. Overall, it's not very fragrant and the little smell there is doesn't remain on your body after the shower.

Once I started to lather up, the first thing I noticed was the difference in how it felt-- very slippery and not very soapy feeling! It even had a hard time staying on the soap dish once it got wet. It's also a soft soap-- when it fell off the soap dish (twice) it did rearrange the corners of the soap a bit where it hit the floor. It was smooth to apply and it didn't leave any residue on my skin.

After the shower, I didn't feel greasy or filmy and my skin felt nice and soft. Even the next day I could feel the difference between the leg I used the Kiss My Face Soap on and the leg that I used my old soap on.

Overall, I'm very happy with this product and I would love to continue to use it! I just hope they get back to me on what they mean by "synthetic"....

UPDATE: Kiss My Face got back to me about their synthetic fragrance. I had asked for specifics, but they gave me a general answer: "Our synthetic fragrances are all phthalate-free and derived from natural sources".

UPDATE 2:  I have found a great new website called the Skin Deep Cosmetic Database which you can read about here: How Safe Are your Beauty Products? It using a scale between 0-10. 0 is the safest while 10 is the most harmful. I used it to find out how safe the Kiss My Face Soap bar is and the rating was 3 due to the fragrance. You can buy the unscented version which is fragrance free!

  1. Thank you so much for researching the parfum! Seems like a positive response but I'm just hoping that the amount is small enough to not matter.

    1. Thank you for your nice words! I am so happy that the Kiss My Face Bar Soap is rated 0 on the Skin Deep Cosmetic Database. That made me feel a lot more comfortable using the product! However, I'm always on the look out for better soap bars that don't have parfum, but I really like how it makes my skin feel so I hope they end either taking it out altogether or breaking it down into individual items so we know what we are using! I keep bugging them so we will see :)

  2. The plain one without aloe is fragrance-free, I believe. I used this for a while and somehow got back to using commercial soaps. I definitely need to use those up so I can get back to using natural products!

    1. Hillarie (I love the spelling of your name by the way), thank you! These soap bars seem to last forever so I haven't even looked at any other options for the Kiss My Face Brand. I will pick that one up once this one runs out :)

  3. I always use natural beauty products and "Kiss My Face" contains essential natural ingredients olive oil and aloe that I need in my daily soap. I will definitely go for it.

  4. I've been using the 100% olive oil bar soap to wash my hair. Works great. I actually use Dove sensitive skin on my body and face as I've had reactions to just about everything else and if it ain't broke I won't keep trying to fix it. Almost everyone else in my family uses that Dove soap as we all seem to have the same skin sensitivities. I can use Kiss My Face on my hair with no trouble but on my skin it causes patches of exzema. Especially on my legs where I have it the worst. It's so weird how we all are like that.

    1. Thanks Annelise! I never thought about using it to wash my hair, but it makes sense. I use a coconut oil based shampoo bar to wash my hair. I'll have to give it a try! I'm sorry that it gives you problems with your eczema, but thanks for sharing. I'm just curious because it seems like you've really tried out a lot of products-- I've heard that African black soap is great for eczema as a facial cleaner-- have you tried it and if so, what did you think about it?

  5. Thanks for the info! Just bought the fragrance free to try out for the first time so glad to hear it is really moisturizing. I was curious about the fragrances too so I also looked at EWG's site. Unfortunately, only the fragrance free variety is rated 0. The other ones all have a rating of 3 (with a specific rating of 8 for the fragrance portion) since they has some synthetic fragrance added. Just a heads up!

    1. Thank you! You're so right! I just checked the EWG site and it says a 3. I don't know how I missed that. I'm fixing it now!!
